As children move into Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, a refined and imaginative curriculum, bursting with cross curricular links, allows children to contextualise their learning and develop a rich understanding of the world around them.
Starting from age five, Year 1, and later into Year 2, Key Stage 1 builds upon the Foundation Stage framework and children continue to explore the world around them, with an increased emphasis on developing skills and understanding of a wide range of core subjects. Links are made across the curriculum wherever possible, in keeping with our holistic teaching methodology. This recognises that the learning experience is greatly enriched when subjects are not taught in isolation. We ensure bread and butter skills are mastered by our children so that they can confidently approach reading, writing, and arithmetic problems with creativity.
Curriculum leaders in English, Maths, and Science ensure that there is a natural progression for children moving from one year group to the next.
In Key Stage 2 our modern foreign language program introduces Spanish for our students. In addition, children across both key stages attend specialist lessons in STEAM/Spark, Arabic, Islamic Studies*, Computing, Art, Music, Physical Education and Swimming.
After graduating from Year 6, students are extremely well-prepared for the challenges of secondary school, and historically VHPS Dubai Sports city pupils have moved on to outstanding establishments across Dubai and abroad.
* Islamic Studies is taught to Islamic children only
Parent School Partnerships
At VHPS COA we recognise that the relationship between school and home is essential to ensuring that the child experiences the best possible start to life. Regular parent consultation meetings held throughout the year, alongside opportunities to visit your child’s classroom and view their work, allows parents to have a rich understanding of their child’s experience at school, and the progress they are making.
A range of parent webinars, coupled with in school sessions, are held regularly to give parents additional support to ensure they are able to support their child at home.
Events, Trips and Experiences
A broad range of trips is in place to support children’s learning across all year groups. Trips are tailored to match the area of study that children are currently looking at, and children have the opportunity to attend 2-3 trips per year. Additionally, children from Year 3 upwards are invited on a range of residential trips.
Children perform in class assemblies and year group productions, showcasing their talents in their performing arts.
