The wonderful Foundation Stage is home to a vibrant community of young learners, exploring the world around them, making meaningful connections through their experiences. Spacious, bright and airy pod areas supplement the imaginative classrooms, with outdoor space offering further opportunities for hands-on learning. At foundation stage children are instilled with a love of learning, and the attitudes, behaviours and learning dispositions that will enable them to thrive.
Starting from age three, FS1 and FS2 follow the Early Years Framework Stage (EYFS). Play exploration remains an important part of the curriculum, alongside more focused activities, including our phonics programme. Language development and oracy skills are part of the VHPS DNA. Our children are also introduced to emergent writing and cursive script. All the knowledge, skills and understanding are taught in a holistic manner through interesting topics that capture a child’s imagination whilst they explore the 7 areas of learning.
In addition to the time spent with their own class teacher, children in FS1 and FS2 receive specialist lessons from our well qualified specialist teams. In both FS1 and FS2, children receive weekly music, PE and swimming lessons, whilst in FS2 children also receive Arabic lessons twice weekly.
Parent – School Partnerships
At foundation stage we recognise that the relationship between school and home is essential to ensuring that the child experiences the best possible start to life. With opportunities to informally talk to your child’s class teacher at both drop off and pick up time, supplemented with regular parent consultation throughout the year, parents are kept fully informed as to their child’s progress. The use of Seesaw to digitally document your child’s learning journey allows families to treasure those special moments in school.
Events, Trips and Experiences
Our youngest learners at foundation stage do not miss out on any of the fun events, trips and experiences throughout the year. With opportunities to perform in both class assemblies as well as year group productions, early singing and oracy skills are developed. Trips to places of interest in the UAE help children further their learning outside of the classroom, while experiences, such as UAE National Day and regular performances from visiting theatre companies, give children further curriculum enhancement.
